Mineral Balance and PMS

There is a Hidden Connection between PMS and Mineral Imbalance

Hey loves, in this blog we are diving into something many of us experience but few understand deeply—PMS.

If you've ever wondered why your monthly cycle can feel like a rollercoaster of emotions, fatigue, and physical discomfort, you're not alone. This is something i support many women with.

The answer may lie in the intricate balance of minerals within our bodies, specifically copper, iron, and magnesium.

Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) is more than just mood swings and cramps. It's a complex interplay of hormonal fluctuations, neurotransmitter activity, and, importantly, mineral balance. When our bodies are out of sync with these essential nutrients, it can exacerbate PMS symptoms, making that time of the month even more challenging.

Copper and Iron Recycling
First, let's talk about copper and iron. These two minerals are crucial for many bodily functions, including the recycling of red blood cells and maintaining healthy energy levels. However, their balance is delicate.

The Role of Copper

Copper is essential for the formation of hemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen throughout our bodies. It also plays a role in the production of neurotransmitters, which influence mood and energy. However, too much copper can lead to an imbalance, contributing to symptoms like anxiety, depression, and fatigue—all common during PMS.

Iron Recycling

Iron is another vital player in this process. Our bodies recycle iron from old red blood cells to create new ones, a process that requires adequate copper levels. When copper and iron are out of balance, it can lead to anemia or iron overload, both of which can worsen PMS symptoms. Anemia, for instance, can cause extreme fatigue and weakness, while excess iron can lead to oxidative stress and inflammation.

Magnesium:
Now, let's shine a light on magnesium, often referred to as nature's "chill pill." Magnesium is critical for over 300 enzymatic reactions in the body, including those that regulate the nervous system and muscle function.

During the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle, magnesium levels tend to drop, which can trigger many PMS symptoms. Low magnesium can lead to muscle cramps, headaches, mood swings, and even insomnia. By replenishing magnesium levels, we can help soothe the nervous system, reduce muscle tension, and improve overall mood stability.

The Interplay Between Copper, Iron, and Magnesium…
These three minerals don't just function independently; they interact in a delicate dance within our bodies. Magnesium helps regulate copper and iron levels, ensuring they are neither too high nor too low. When magnesium is depleted, it can lead to an imbalance in copper and iron, exacerbating PMS symptoms.

The Importance of Balance

Maintaining a balance between copper, iron, and magnesium is crucial for managing PMS. An imbalance in any one of these minerals can disrupt the entire system, leading to a cascade of symptoms that make PMS more severe.

Understanding the role of minerals in PMS can be life altering and empowering. By focusing on the balance of copper, iron, and magnesium, we can take proactive steps to alleviate symptoms and embrace our menstrual cycles with greater ease and comfort.

Remember, loves, it’s all about nurturing our bodies and listening to what they need.

If you're struggling with PMS, consider exploring the balance of these essential minerals in your body. Sometimes, the key to harmony lies in the most fundamental elements of life. Let's reclaim our cycles and our vitality by tuning into the wisdom of our bodies and the power of balanced minerals.
